what we do

Core Activities

NPAC Zambia co-ordinates the safe delivery of developmental aid to schools, communities, and health facilities. The donated aid includes school and medical equipment, clothing and furniture, stationary, educational materials, medical and school supplies and sports equipment and clothing, shoes etc. NPAC Zambia also monitors receiving centres of donated aid for auditing and security purposes on behalf of the donors.

NPAC also facilitates the carriage and logistics of other donated aid from the UK on behalf of smaller charities that do not have their own infrastructure in place to transport, track and confirm their complete deliveries to the bonafide recipients.

Developmental Projects

NPAC Zambia runs skills development and intervention projects such as the Washable Sanitary Pads Project; providing Reusable Sanitary Pads for girls in rural and peri-urban areas. The pad project has been in existence since 2015 and expanded in 2018 through the setup of a permanent bulk-sewing workshop in Lusaka. The durable washable sanitary pads produced can last up to five years and offer a more cost-effective method for vulnerable rural girls to manage their menstruation and keep them in school while empowering rural women with tailoring skills, equipment and jobs.

Short Term Projects

NPAC Zambia occasionally runs short-term intervention projects, which give temporary employment to skilled and semi-skilled women such as the recent Covid-19 emergency response project to produce reusable cloth facemasks for frontline health workers and school goers.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Washable Sanitary Pads

The NPAC Zambia Washable Pad Project has to date produced over 23,000 high-quality washable sanitary pads, and distributed the pads to almost 2,650 adolescent school girls in Nyimba, Kafue and Lusaka districts, with pending distributions to a further 1,600 school girls in 11 schools in Mambwe District.

Reusable Cloth face Masks

NPAC Zambia joined in a Covid-19 intervention and in May/June 2020, using its existing pad project resources rapidly produced over 18,500 reusable cloth facemasks out of the over 36,000 distributed to front-line health workers under the “Lusaka Helps” sewers coalition, employing up to 20 tailors to make the masks.

Aid Donations

NPAC has over the last 14 years distributed over 10,000 articles of school and office furniture, stationary, medical equipment and supplies, books, clothing, musical instruments, disability aids, sports and general supplies to almost 1,000 schools, clinics, orphanages, churches and multi-disabled children’s homes in several districts around Zambia.

The NPAC Zambia Facemask Project also produced 61,000 reusable cloth facemasks for distribution to Schools in Lusaka and Northern Provinces under a UK-aid funded “Prospero Zambia Covid-19 emergency response grant”. 40,000 of the cloth face masks were donated to the Ministry of General Education in January 2021 with a further 21,000 face masks due to be delivered in the first week of March 2021.

NPAC Zambia

The primary objective since its registration in September 2018 was to assess, co-ordinate and oversee the delivery of developmental aid to the underprivileged in Zambia.

The local branch was also tasked with monitoring, evaluating and expanding the reach of existing skills training projects for rural economic development.
